Men In Fellowship

The Men of St. John’s meet in fellowship some ten or so times a year. We meet up to socialise, network, discuss issues of the moment, frivolous or serious, and to think through the problems of society from the standpoint of Christians today. We continue to blend the serious and the light-hearted in our programmes.

Our quarterly Saturday morning breakfasts have entertained a retired Anglican Bishop, who described the highs and lows of leading a Church of England Diocese; the Legal Director of the News Group Newspapers who described some of the pressures facing him through the lens of the Times Christian Fellowship; and a fascinating description by a Methodist minister of his Christian journey out of Africa to suburban Guildford.

Our away days took us to Chichester Cathedral where we were spiritually enlightened by our knowledgeable guides and well-fed in the refectory. The second outing was thwarted by the dry weather. The Watercress Line Real Ale Train evening was cancelled because of the danger of line-side fires. It will be rescheduled to next year. Coming up in September will be a return visit to the Chithurst Buddhist Monastery

Our activities attract numbers varying from a dozen to 30 or so. It is very democratic in considering new ideas and autocratic when it comes to the detail. The basis of our being is Christian, but we welcome anyone of any or no faith. You just have to be polite in debate, open in argument and prepared to help with the washing up.
