Cream Tea with 1940’s Entertainment

We ate rather a lot, sang a lot and laughed a lot on the afternoon of Sunday 13th August. We experienced some of our august church members as never seen before. Impeccable formal attire and BBC accents from church warden Robert and ex church warden Andy, both Northern lads. A perfect rendition of part of a famous Churchillian speech from our dear Dermot, and Vera Lynn in fabulous voice from the lovely Jacqueline.

Other treats were our very own Ron (who had the idea and brought it to fruition) taking part as a member of the Home Guard, Carmen Miranda – amazing dress and hat – and a third persona as Gracie Fields.  Mavis was our wonderful maestro at the piano and some amazing ladies teamed up as The St John’s Sisters. Jean led her efficient catering team wearing very smart ‘nippy’ gear, and Helen, our other church warden, dealt with the bouquets for the performers and the general thanks to all who came along and to all who took part.

All in all a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and when we counted up the raffle money and donations, AND calculated the gift aid we can claim back – drum roll………

The grand total is £630.35
